The Official Launch Of The Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council

Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council was launched on the 30th Mac 2011, by Yang Berhormat Dato Mukhriz Mahathir, Deputy Minister of International Trade & Investment. The launch was also graced by Mr. Saleem H. Mandviwalla, Chairman of the Board of Investment & Minister of Pakistan.

This historic launch is the culmination of the formation of the Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council's and its hard work to achieve its objectives. Prominent Malaysian businessmen and corporate leaders were present at the launch to promote the interest of the Malaysian business community.

Formed in 2003, to enhance bilateral trade and investment relations between Malaysia and Pakistan, the Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council was established between the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce.

With the objectives of encouraging and promoting feasible and viable projects and joint ventures available in both countries, the Council will also furnish and to advise on trade and investment information on financing, regulatory framework and requirements and facilitation services.

According to Dato Mohd Salim bin Fateh Din, Chairman of the Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council, "the Council will also endeavor to study and propose solutions to challenges faced by the business community and to have proper channels of feedback ad dialogues with both countries."

"The key parameter of the Council's activities is to provide the private sector perspective and feedback to the government on a consultative mode", Dato Mohd Salim added, who is also the Honorary Investment Counselor for the Board of Investment for Pakistan.

The Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council has been effective and through its efforts, several trade projects are underway. Among them are the approval and certification of Zenith Abattoir in Lahore for Halal and Safe production of Meat (beef in particular) for export to Malaysia. This is the first and only abattoir approved in Pakistan by the MOA through the Dept' of Veterinary Services and JAKIM.

The Malaysia-Pakistan Council also played an integral role in the import of 170 Nili-Ravi buffaloes, which is one of the more productive dairy breed of buffaloes in the world, high in Protein and is used for mozzarella cheese. These animals were allowed for export by the authorities in Pakistan to Malaysia, as a result of an understanding between the 2 countries to collaborate in the field of buffalo breeding. Malaysia will benefit from their breeding expertise and high quality genetic material of buffaloes from Pakistan.

Dato Mohd Salim also added that the Council's objectives is also to stimulate the exports of goods and services by way of continued communications, which has produced success stories.

The Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council hopes to achieve better trade relation between Malaysian and Pakistan and plans to organize activities and to facilitate training programs, technology transfer know how to increase investment opportunities between Malaysia and Pakistan.
